MTB territory: Lake District Routes – LakesMTB. We can insert visitors into Morecambe Bay Route 700 at a point of their choice if traffic or terrain is off-putting.
We have a full library of OS Maps, Guides and contemporary Cycling literature (to end all those arguments) and a repertoire of cycling, motoring and legal anecdotes should you become bored.
Proprietor Paul Darlington, a qualified solicitor and accredited Bikeability instructor, has a diverse cycling history from restoring and rebuilding a Paris for use with his school Cycling Club to founding Cycle-Aid and Cycle-SOS, the Cyclists’ National Helpline in which he practised for 30 years.
Keen golfers
Just down the Switch Road is Silverdale’s Golf Club which is set in a stunning location and has fabulous views over the surrounding countryside, across Morecambe Bay and towards the Cumbrian Howgill Fells.
We have ample space for all golfing paraphernalia and drying facilities and capabilities.
For birders
We back onto Cringle Barrow and Leighton Hall’s natural woodland, with the RSPB reserve at Leighton Moss less than a mile away and easily walkable through the woods or 10 minutes by bike.
There are owls, kestrels, sparrow-hawks and larger raptors along with traditional garden songbirds attracted by numerous feeders. And in spring, the growing population of Bitterns boom away for all they’re worth.
Further afield are the Foulshaw Moss Ospreys and the Cumbrian Coast (Ravensglass & Walney Island) with their diverse mix of seabirds.
For motorists & motor bikers
Motoring and Motorbiking: What’s not to like? Classic Motoring News rally- roads in Devil’s Own and Illuminations territory. Within easy distance of classic routes of Barbondale, Dentdale, Kingsdale, Lythe Fell, Trough of Bowland, Littledale and Hardknott and Wrynose Lake District Passes.
North West Stages Rally: the Cross Gill stage is on the doorstep; Beacon Fell, Nicky Nook and Hawthornthwaite all within half an hour. Numerous Bikers’ meeting points including Kirkby Lonsdale’s Devil’s Bridge.
Convenient for spectating on Malcolm Wilson and Grizedale.
